]]> The Board of Directors of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) on Wednesday 19th August, 2025, visited the Aveyime Water Treatment Plant of the Three District Water Supply Scheme. The visit sought to equip the Board with practical operational insight to better inform their governance responsibilities in ensuring sustainable and efficient water service delivery to thousands of households.

The tour, which included key management staff from CWSA, focused on understanding the intricate processes that transform raw water from the Volta River into clean, safe, potable water. The Board was guided through the plant’s major units, from the initial intake and coagulation stages to filtration, disinfection, and finally, the high-lift pumps that send water into the transmission network.

]]> The Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) has welcomed Mr Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha as its new Deputy Chief Executive, marking a significant step in strengthening Ghana’s efforts to improve rural water supply and sanitation services.

Mr Putiaha’s appointment comes at a crucial time when Ghana is intensifying efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6  — ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all. With his extensive experience in public administration and development projects, he is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing CWSA’s mandate.

In his inaugural address, Mr Putiaha expressed his commitment to collaborating with stakeholders, improving service delivery, and ensuring sustainable water systems in rural communities and small towns in Ghana.

Before his appointment, Mr. Putiaha has extensive experience in public service having served as Municipal Chief Executive for the Wa Municipal Assembly. He also served at the National Health Insurance Authority as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and Nadowli Scheme Manager. These roles have exposed him to high levels of governance, policy formulation, stakeholder management and organization transformation. His expertise in management positions him as a valuable asset to CWSA.

As Mr Putiaha settles into his new role, expectations are high for innovative solutions, improved service delivery, and stronger partnerships to ensure that no Ghanaian is left behind in accessing clean water and sanitation.

During the meeting, CONIWAS Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to supporting rural water service delivery and emphasized the evolving collaboration between NGOs and government agencies.

The Chief Executive Officer, MR. Vincent Senam Kuagbenu, acknowledged CONIWAS’s role in advocating for and supporting the ruralwater sub-sector reforms, particularly since 2017. Discussions centered on integrating point source water systems into the broader reform framework, improving data collection, ensuring last-mile communities are not left behind and enhancing coordination between NGOs and government efforts.
