Godwin Elikem Kotoku has a Master’s in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management and a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology wtih Psychology), from the Institute of Local Government Studies and the University of Ghana respectively. In addition, he has completed certificate courses in Project Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA); Risk Assessment & Management; and Water & Sanitation Master Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation from KNUST.

He is the Ag. Regional Director, Greater Accra. He has over ten years of experience working in the rural Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) subsector. Godwin has provided technical and operational support by coordinating, executing, monitoring, and/or evaluating a variety of social & behavioural change programs and initiatives that promote community involvement, engagement, and quantifiable behavioural and social transformation.

Before his current role as the Ag. Regional Director, he worked as an Extension Services Specialist with CWSA Northern & Greater Accra Regions, supporting and leading water systems in introducing cutting-edge services to enhance customer experience. As a regional learning facilitator, he has also coordinated activities on the Northern Regional Learning Alliance Platform where participants question and test the validity of assumptions underlying certain practices within the WASH sector and document pathways for improvement.

In addition to his work with WASH programmes, Godwin has interests in environmental and social safeguards as well as climate-resilient WASH services. He has partnered with organisations like UNICEF, WaterAid, SNV, and Global Communities (WASH 4 HEALTH), all of which place special emphasis on sustainable WASH outcomes.

He has Research interests in gendered roles and norms around domestic water collection and uses; communication and social mobilization around WASH; community participation and governance of WASH systems, climate-resilient WASH systems, and professionalizing rural water delivery. He has contributed to sector papers like achieving full coverage and innovative financing for capital maintenance expenditure. He has a research work titled ‘Rethinking the Sustainability of Rural Water Delivery under the Community Ownership and Management Model’ that was published in the Journal of Sustainable Water Resources Management.
